Welcome to The Count House, a holiday cottage in Devon

The orchard in blossom at Capeltor Farm
a scene of utter peace and tranquillity

The Count House self catering cottage

The Count House is tucked away in the Tamar Valley, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (ANOB), close to the pretty market town of Tavistock and the dramatic landscape of Dartmoor.

Originally built as a mine office for the Devon Great United Copper Mines, it was left for nature to reclaim before being transformed into a cosy, comfortable and light filled holiday cottage which sleeps two.

A peaceful and tranquil location

The Count House is an ideal holiday cottage for romantic breaks and relaxing holidays and for those who wish to enjoy the quiet of the countryside. It is set in a lovely wooded hillside with glorious views over the River Tamar and the surrounding valley.

Nature on your doorstep

The Count House has a private garden where you can relax and immerse yourself in nature with deer, bats, swallows and brimstones being but a few of its visitors. Inside the cottage has been sensitively decorated to complement the serenity found outside with greens and misty blue lime washes, and birds and flowers adorning walls and fabric.

Near to coast and moors

Situated on the Devon side just over the border between Devon and Cornwall, the Count House holiday cottage is perfectly placed to enjoy some of the best aspects of both West Devon and East Cornwall.

With the vast expanse of Dartmoor to the east with its striking granite tors, prehistoric stone circles, ancient woods and rivers and Bodmin to the west with the magnificent Cheesewring and prehistoric Hurlers stone circle, you are in perfect walking country.

To the north lie the dramatic cliffs and surfing beaches of the north Cornish coast and to the south the more gentle terrain of the south coast with its pretty seaside villages and sandy beaches.

Exploring nature

Guests are welcome to wander through the six acres of paddocks, orchards and woodland at Capeltor. The land is home to sheep, goats, bees, chickens, geese, dogs and cats, so please keep any visiting dogs on leads and close gates behind you.

The Count House is on the north edge of this with its own south facing garden and backdrop of woodland. A bench awaits at the top of the sloping field looking west, a perfect place for you to watch the sunset.

Quotation marks

'If you like peace and quiet, if you love walks in woods looking for fungi, if you love the smell of the countryside, then it is for you - but don't come too often because it won't be available for us.' Charles, London
